Description
The waterborne disease outbreak in Walkerton and resulting death of several people and ensuing inquiry has had far reaching implications for water systems throughout Canada. This paper describes how the tragedy has impacted drinking water standards, regulations and water systems in British Columbia. The paper describes the history of drinking water quality events in the province beginning before the Walkerton outbreak. It presents case histories of the affects on planning for water treatment works for two water systems in British Columbia. Includes 4 references, tables.
