Platte West Well Field: A Protective Modeling Approach
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 06/01/2007

Document Format: PDF

Description

This powerpoint presentation outlines a project to provide additional water supply to the Omaha, Nebraska, metro area; meet demand estimates for the year 2030; and, increase system reliability. The major project components include: the well field consisting of42 vertical wells with groundwater designation, direct recharge from the Platte River, acombination of “river” and “storage” wells, two 48-inch diameter pipes crossing the Platte River; compliance with Clean Water Act Section 404 Permit; and,100 million gallon per day (mgd) water treatment plant. The purpose of groundwater modeling was to:ensure compliance with Clean Water Act Section 404 Permit;evaluate impact of well field operation on other users;impact on Superfund Site;impact on Lincoln well field; and, develop contingencies for Platte River of low flow conditions and river contamination scenarios. The protective modeling concept is outlined, along with the modeling procedure, model construction and calibration, and predictive simulations. Includes tables, figures.
