Description
This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and then presents the study objective: address how various water qualityand operational parameters impactNDMA formation. The experimental approach included bench and pilot-scale studies, and evaluated the following parameters: bromide, nitrite, polymer dose, biofiltration, free-chlorine contact time, chloramine contact time, re-chlorination in the distribution system, and temperature. NDMA formation tests are presented, along with results on the impacts of: nitrite; biofiltration; free-chlorine contact time; chloramine contact time; and, re-chlorination and storage time. Study conclusions indicate that: impacted by bromide (bromamines); not impacted by low levels of nitrite; impacted by free Cl2 contact time; forms slowly in distribution system;impacted by temperature; and, impacted by use of certain polyaminepolymers thatcan be minimized by controlling dose ofpolymer, presence of free chlorine. Includes 21 references, tables, figures.
