Changes in Eastern Europe – Additional Challenges for Development in the Water Industry?
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/1991

Document Format: PDF

Description

While Eastern European countries such as Poland and Czechoslovakia are not by definition developing countries, they do share with developing countries common aspects with regard to water supply and sanitation problems. This report draws a general picture of the economic and environmental problems in Eastern European countries in regard to water supply. The focus is on eastern Germany, with some discussion of Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria. Investment needed in environmental efforts is outlined. However, the water supply and sanitation problems are closely interrelated with rehabilitation of the environment in general, and possibilities for further development are closely related to economic development in general.
