Hydraulic engineers have known for decades that flow distortion devices such as tees, elbows and pressure reducing valves can affect the overall accuracy and long term performance of a water meter. However, a key contributor to loss in meter accuracy over time is frictional wear on specific components in the meter’s measuring element. This paper looks at the design, application and long term performance of the turbine type meter.
