Description
On August 6, 1996, Congress reauthorized the Safe Drinking Water Act and added a section that specifies, in part, that the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) propose a National Interim Primary Drinking Water Regulation (NIPDWR) for arsenic by January 1, 2000 and issue a final regulation by January 1, 2001. To address this regulatory requirement, USEPA is developing a Technologies and Cost (T&C) document for arsenic removal which is designed to characterize the feasibility of arsenic removal technologies and estimate costs for various arsenic regulatory scenarios. Feasibility is primarily characterized in the T&C document in terms of removal capability and costs for arsenic removal technologies. This paper gives a brief description of each arsenic removal technology included in the T&C document, along with the arsenic removal capability, and capital and operation and maintenance costs associated with each process.
