A host of uncertainties influence the accuracy of networkmodeling exercises, and some caution is needed to interpretprogram output and predictions. Too often, the wrongsources are suspected as the causes of model uncertainty. Filionand Karney show that the Hazen-Williams equation was seldomthe culprit.The authors hope that their findings will help to stimulateresearch and an understanding in the industry of the challengesfaced by hydraulic and water quality simulations. In addition, theyencourage utility managers to use the Hazen-Williams equationwith more confidence and to view hydraulic models in generalwith a little more suspicion.
