Description
Most ocean desal facilities are located along the coasts in theenergy-rich Middle East. However, ocean desal is a growing marketin Spain, England, the United States, and Mexico. Several trendshave contributed to the advancement of ocean desal both in theUnited States and abroad in recent years. These trends includeconsistent improvements in desal technology, increased governmentalsubsidy, increased consideration of co-location with powerplants, and more frequent use of collaborative approaches thatbring private sector and public entities together for project development.Although there are still many barriers to large-scale implementationof ocean desalination, advances in technology, waterpolicy, economic allocation, and public awareness will continue todrive the development of ocean desalination projects well into the foreseeable future.
