Description
The purpose of this article is to describe a typical water main cleaning and mortar lining project at the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) from inception to completion, with emphasis on concerns that would be applicable to other utilities. The following are discussed: project selection, including engineering and management decisions; job planning, encompassing contract preparation, bidding, public input, coordination of work, and management; and maintenance considerations.
