Description
This paper explores key operational and design considerations to be addressed when designinga membrane filtration plant that will filter flashy surface water from creeks as well asgroundwater with high concentrations of arsenic from groundwater wells. The paper addressesfour issues that were critical to the design of the South Truckee Meadows Water FiltrationFacility (WTF) in Reno, Nevada. These issues include: the selection of microfiltration over dual mediagravity filtration; implementation of pretreatment processes; selection of membrane type;and, the integration of membrane system control strategy with the overall process controlscheme. Includes tables.
