Description
Water reuse is vital and growing in popularity in America’s Midwest. New systemsand innovative approaches are being developed frequently. As with other parts ofthe US, regulatory and public perceptions can be hindrances to the implementationof these systems. In order to increase common knowledge of reuse systems, theauthors of this paper are part of the newly formed Central States (Illinois,Minnesota, Wisconsin) Water Environment Association’s Water Reuse Committee.Often the same factors that lead to the implementation of a reuse system in thesouthwest are present here too. However there are unique aspects to reuse in thenorth central region of the United States. This paper reviews the types ofsystems that are in operation and some of those that are being planned andexplores the factors that drive the implementation of these projects.
