This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Durham Region, east of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. The presentation focuses on Durham’s Water and EnergyEfficient Community including: Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) that managesthe ENERGY STAR® program;Builder – Tribute Communities; and,Federation of CanadianMunicipalities (FCM). An overview of the Water and Energy EfficientCommunity includes:upgraded fixtures, appliances and frontgardens in 88 homes built by TributeCommunities in Ajax Ontario;first homes occupied in August 2004;mostly starter homes – 30 ft, 37 ft and 56 ft lots; and,stress the affordability of upgrades including upgraded Energy Star® appliances. A sub-metering program is outlined and includes: electricity – dishwasher, fridge, stove, washer anddryer, whole home;water meters are radio frequency (RF) andmount next to appliance/use;electricity meters connect to main panel inbasement (also RF);home access only at project beginning and end(after 1 year);sub-meter installations done by May 2006; and,sub-meter readings began in September 2006, completed September 2007.
