Selection of Anion Exchange Resins for DOM Removal of Raw and Treated Surface Waters
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 11/15/2004

Document Format: PDF

Description

The objective of this study was first to evaluate the efficiency of several adsorbents (MIEX®,DOWEX-11®, DOWEX-MSA®, IRA-938®, IRA-958® and AMBERSORB®) for theirapplication in drinking water treatment of high dissolved organic carbon (DOC) content surface waters (DOC > 6 mg/L).In a parallel study, the impact on mineral ion content was studied with all theresins. The main part of the study focused on MIEX® performance. The efficiency of themagnetic anion exchange resin MIEX® for natural organic matter (NOM) removal (UV absorbance at 254 nm, DOC,fluorescence emission, HPLC/SEC/UV) was thus tested on raw water, raw water treated bycoagulation-flocculation (ferric chloride with controlled pH and Aqualenc®) and ozonatedwater. In the parallel study, the impact on mineral ion content was also studied withall the resins. Finally, the effect of MIEX® treatment on membrane fouling was investigatedduring ultrafiltration (100 kDa). Includes 3 references, table, figures.
